Are You Ready For Some Football?

Cottage Grove, MN – All eyes will be on Hamlet Park on Monday night for the first games in the Junior Wolfpack Mite’s Flag Football League’s inaugural season. Six teams will kick off the first season in the new league on Monday night while the remaining four teams will begin their seasons on Tuesday.

“This is an exciting time” Mites Director Dan Smoot said on Friday. “These kids have been practicing very hard and now it’s time to show what all their hard work has produced.”

Monday’s match-ups include the Chargers taking on the Fighting Irish, the Eagles facing the Raiders, and the Vikings versus the Jets. Tuesday’s games include the Golden Gophers matching up against the Panthers and the Patriots taking on the Cardinals.

TMZ has reported that U2’s frontman Bono will be singing the star-spangled banner Monday night and that Pearl Jam, the greatest band in the history of planet earth, will provide the half-time entertainment. The Junior Wolfpack League office did not confirm these reports.

Directors pull an "all nighter" and select teams

Mites Director, Dan Smoot, and Assistant to the Mites Director, Dave Blumberg, stressfully labored late into the evening on Friday night and came up with 10 teams that are ready to play some football.

The teams will be led by the following coaches:

  1. Jeff Samuelson
  2. Pat Nickle
  3. Chris Konechney
  4. Dave Blumberg
  5. Dan Smoot
  6. Marc Talledge
  7. Joel Karnitz
  8. Dave Runion
  9. Greg Dahling
  10. Troy Meduna

Players will be notified at practice on Tuesday of what team they are on.  They will receive their jerseys and will practice as a team for the first time.

"Several factors were considered when selecting the teams ... " said Coach Smoot.  Asst Director Blumberg further elaborated that "each team was divided up as fairly as possible and scientific analysis and Excel pivot tables were used in our analysis."

When all the teams were decided upon, we reviewed our findings with NFL Draft expert Mel Kiper, Jr, and NFL editor from the Pioneer Press, John Pluym, and they both stated that they project every team in the league to be 5-5, but other factors may influence wins and losses....

Coaches Joel Karnitz and Dave Runion stated that they are anxious to see who is on their team so they can begin to implement their offense while Coach Smoot was excited to say that he can see a state champion in 2022 or 2023.

Support the Wolfpack on Community Football Night

Please join Coach Glazier and the Park Wolfpack at Community Football night on Wednesday, August 24th.

The Mites (flag) organization will have our pictures taken and we will scrimmage on the "big boys" turf in front of the other groups.

Pictures will take place from 5:00 to 5:40.  This should allow everyone to participate in pictures, the scrimmage and/or other events.

Please visit the site for your team's time and GO WOLFPACK!
